With peak migration occurring in early June, you'll have the chance to free dive among thousands of these majestic rays in crystal-clear waters, capturing breathtaking moments with unparalleled visibility.

Weather Conditions

During this remarkable journey along the Baja coast, you'll enjoy optimal weather conditions that enhance your experience. The surface temperatures range from a warm 89F to 94F, ensuring comfortable conditions both above and below the water. In the water, temperatures vary between 75F and 78F, providing a pleasant environment for diving and free diving.

Visibility is another highlight, with clear waters offering an impressive range of 15 to 20 meters on most days. These excellent conditions ensure that you'll have unobstructed views of the stunning marine life, making your encounters with whales, Mobula rays, and other ocean giants even more memorable.

Diving Conditions

This expedition focuses on snorkeling and free diving with aggregations of mobula rays and the chance to encounter orcas. The Sea of Cortez offers rich biodiversity and dramatic underwater landscapes.тАЛ

  • Water Temperature: 75┬░F to 78┬░F
  • Visibility: 15тАУ30 meters (50тАУ100 feet) 
  • Depth Range: Snorkeling and free diving; depths vary 
  • Diving Difficulty: Beginner to Intermediate; comfort in open water required

Sample Itinerary

Day 1: Fly to Cabo San Lucas or to La Paz and check in Aqua Ventana Hotel (Cabo San Lucas is 2 hours drive north of Aqua Ventana and La Paz airport is 45 minutes drive south) )

Day 2 тАУ 6: 6 full days searching for all pelagicтАжMobula Ray, whale shark, possible Orca and whales. 

Day 7: Depart at the AM transfer to Cabo San Lucas airport (transfers not included)

The resort is in the prime beachfront location in La Ventana. Come and stay steps from the playa in one of our many unique beachfront and desert garden caba├▒as. Relax in our pool/hot tub/fire pit lounge, or hit the restaurant and Aqua Bar for great drinks and food. You can pamper yourself with massage treatments and maid service, Go on ocean wildlife boat safaris, surf our free wifi, or enjoy our basic sports gear (kayaks, stand-up paddle gear, cruiser bikes, and snorkeling gear) to explore our beautiful area. Head to the sports center for pro instruction or rentals of all wind + foil sports; mountain bikes and guides also available.

Amos Nachoum

Amos Nachoum is an internationally acclaimed wildlife and underwater photographer and explorer. With a career spanning more than four decades, he has dedicated his life to capturing extraordinary images of elusive aquatic and land animals and inspiring others to understand and respect the natural world.

His extraordinary work has won him numerous awards. Notably, he is a two-time winner of the prestigious BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition. His work has also been recognized by National Geographic, the World Press Photo, and the United Nations Environmental Program, among others. His images have appeared in prominent publications worldwide, including National Geographic Magazine, Time, Life, The New York Times, Cond Nast Traveler, and many others.

As an expedition guide, Amos is known for his meticulous planning and vast experience navigating challenging environments. He instills confidence in his team members, always prioritizing safety and respect for the natural world. His deep understanding of marine life and their habitats, coupled with his ability to anticipate and adapt to changing conditions, makes him an invaluable mentor to those fortunate to journey with him. Guests will need to fly into Cabo San Lucas or La Paz. Cabo San Lucas is 2 hours drive north of Aqua Ventana and La Paz airport is 45 minutes drive south.

In order to join an expedition, you are required to carry trip, health, and dive (if applicable) insurance. This information as well as your passport photo will be requested after you place your deposit.
