Trip Overview
Dive Overview
The resort's instructors and guides are highly trained and know how to get you to fantastic dives. They offer small group diving and the guests' requests are accommodated within safety limits. They also offer flexible dive options.
At Dumaguete, you can take full advantage of some of the worlds best scuba diving. The world-renowned Apo Island with its walls, stunning coral, and schooling fish is a short boat ride away. Some of the worlds rarest critters compete for the underwater photographers attention along the Dauin coastline near Dumaguete in the Philippines. The area is often frequented by underwater photographers in search of exquisitely rare shots.
The night dives are also stunning, as are the mandarin fish dives at dusk and the fluoro dives where you can see the underwater world in a completely new light.
Bluewater owner, Scott Gietler, says: 'July is a great time to visit Dumaguete. I've done Dumaguete twice in July and weather has been very nice - calm and not windy. You get some rain but only a brief shower which freshens the air.'
See our Guide to diving Dumaguete.

Recommended Photo Gear
Dumaguete offers a perfect mix of everything a scuba diver would want, excellent muck diving with lots of rare critters along the Dauin coastline, and good wide-angle opportunities at Apo Island, with also the opportunity to swim with whale sharks. So we advise to take a mix of lens for both wide angle and macro.
Action Cam / Smartphone Options:
Action Camera housings for the GoPro hero 13 in a Isotta GoPro Housing with an Isotta Tray and a wide angle wet lens for wide angle shooting, with Kraken underwater video lights.
We recommend the Divevolk SeaTouch 4 Plus which caters for most smartphones. Add a Divevolk Tray for more control, and a good set of underwater video lights from Weefine and you will be ready to go.
Compact Camera Options:
Om System TG-7 in a Nauticam TG-7 Housing with a Nauticam FlexiTray with a CMC-1 or CMC-2 for macro work, then paired with a wide angle wet lens for your larger ocean animals.
Full Frame Mirrorless Options:
Travelling light and compact often helps with less luggage and gear, especially for domestic flights which are normally on smaller aeroplanes. The Sony a6700 offer the best compromise for size and quality. This camera paired with the Ikelite a6700 DLM/E housing to be light and compact. Then for lighting you should look at the Ikelite DS 230 strobes, giving the best power for wide angle and macro work.
